Tell me more about Fort Bramble!
-
Fort Bramble guides are full of easy ideas for discovery, play, and connection. Each guide has a theme, and is full of low- and no-prep activities and prompts, as well as book suggestions, links to videos and songs, and an easy, on-theme snack idea.
-
The guides are designed to be used by parents, grandparents, and other grown-ups with children 3-7 years old. Anyone who wants to connect with their kids in a fun and meaningful way, but who doesn’t have the time to spend hours researching ideas, will find something to love in Fort Bramble guides.

You know your child best, and you will always need to use your own judgment about what is appropriate for their current stage of development. That said, the guides are flexible, and you should be able to adapt them for older and slightly younger kids. This is especially useful if you’re implementing the guides with siblings of different ages.

This is a big one, but what’s usually behind this question is a concern about academic readiness. The truth is that earlier is not always better, and that by pushing academics younger and younger, children miss out on time they need to develop foundational skills such as critical thinking, self-care, and social-emotional awareness. This is a huge conversation, much bigger than can fit on this FAQ page, but if you want to learn more, Susie Allison has a great article about Kindergarten Readiness over at Busy Toddler.
All of that is to say that the material inside Fort Bramble guides can help build those foundational skills, and many of the activities encourage pre-literacy and pre-numeracy development, but they are not designed with academics in mind. No worksheets here.

Yes! Early childhood “curriculum” should include: reading together, talking with your child about things that matter to them, and time for open-ended play and discovery. Fort Bramble guides are designed to provide inspiration for all of those elements. Add to this your own curiosity about the world, and you’ve got everything you need for a rich homeschool curriculum.

The guides are PDFs, so they are printable. However, the dimensions are specifically intended to be mobile friendly, and pages would need to be re-sized to fit on a standard 8.5 x 11” sheet of paper.
